The DICE Fellowship has been designed for first- and second-year students who are inclined to learn more and work toward creating inclusive spaces. The DICE Fellowship provides students a platform for discussion while developing language and a framework to be more skilled in their respective futures.
We will be selecting a cohort of 25 students from the application process to become DICE Fellows this semester.
A commitment to the DICE Fellowship this semester will consist of attending seven 1.5-hour workshops, three large group events of your choice, as well as writing four online reflection journals. Each workshop has been meticulously designed to promote the development of each participants framework, language, and marketable skills.
As a reward for your participation, all certified DICE Fellows will receive an award of completion, as well as, other Fellowship benefits. This is a great opportunity to connect with other students, faculty at USC, and experts in the field!
The DICE Fellowship was created by Disha Mahendro, a USC Doctor of Educational Leadership student.
Justice, Education, Diversity & Inclusion Trainings are open to all students and will be offered monthly by SEIP staff.
101 Session: Fundamentals - Learn fundamentals of identity based leadership. These sessions will cover terminology, identity development, bystander and trans-inclusiveness approaches. Offered from 10am-12pm on January 31st, February 25th and March 23rd.
201 Session: Intersecting – For a more in-depth understanding of the intersections of race, gender & sexuality and economic injustice attend these sessions. Offered from 12:30pm-2:30pm but please note that each date will offer a different topic: Race, Power + Privilege (January 31st), Gender + Sexuality (February 25th) and Economic Injustice (March 23rd)
Race, Power + Privilege- Come learn and explore racial identity and how power, privilege and oppression have shaped the world and how we view ourselves and others. Discover how various forms of activism in history has countered systems of racial oppression in our media and society at large. This training will help provide tangible tools and knowledge to demonstrate allyship through bystander intervention and de-centering of whiteness.
Gender + Sexuality- The training will guide participants in learning about trans-national LGBTQ rights and LGBTQ US history; examine contemporary queer culture, and explore AIDS activism. Participants will be provided with deconstructive insights into terms and language around gender and sexuality; with these insights in mind, contemporary issues and future trajectories will be discussed.
Economic Injustice- Come discuss and explore how power, privilege, and oppression have created economic injustice in higher education and the larger society. We will explore how social, cultural, and financial capital impact college and university students’ access to resources and mobility within higher education. Participants will walk away with tangible skills and knowledge on how to navigate conversations with individuals experiencing housing, food, and economic insecurity or instability with intentionality, care, and compassion.
